"Erected by his loving wife and children, in fond memory of Patrick Minogue, who died on active service on the 11th March 1915, aged 43 years. Also his daughter Nora, aged 15 (?) months. One lonely year has passed away since death's cold hand did take you. But never since we saw you last did our fond thoughts forsake you in health and strength. He left his home not thinking death was near, but short and sudden was the call on him. We loved so dear. R.I.P."⁵

Mary Manogue+ (10 Feb 1867 - 24 Nov 1909); I don't have documentation that Patrick Manogue and Mary Dunphy are the parents of the Mary Manogue who married Patrick Bryan. However, all of Mary and Patrick's children were born in Bridget's Well where Patrick and Mary Dunphy had their family and it appears they were the only Manogue family there. Also, many of the baptismal sponsors for Mary and Patrick Bryan's children appear to be siblings of Mary's. Also, in the 1901 Census, Ellen Manogue, "sister-in-law" is living with Patrick and Mary. Also living with them is Bridget Dumphy (sic), aunt by marriage to Patrick Bryan, so I believe that Bridget Dunphy is the sister of his mother-in-law, Mary Dunphy.^8,9

The article is reporting on a court case where an individual named Patrick Manogue from Bridgetswell was prosecuted for violently assaulting another person named Michael Dunphy, also from Bridgetswell, on September 10th. Manogue knocked Dunphy down and struck him with a clenched hand. After the complaint was proven, Manogue was ordered to pay a fine of £1 plus costs, or face one month's imprisonment if he failed to pay. (see attached image); Witness=Michael Dunphy⁵

This deed would also likely indicate that Thomas was the eldest son of John Minogue and possibly the oldest grandson of John Loughlin.²

John Minogue+ (c Oct 1849 - 1 Jun 1917); I have no proof that the John Minogue who married Johanna Walsh was the son of Thomas Minogue and Catherine Phelan. However, the date of birth of the John, born to Thomas and Catherine, would be about correct for a man marrying Johanna in 1881. Also, John and Johanna named their first 2 children, Catherine and Thomas, who possible were the names of John's parent (John - born in 1849). Also, in John and Johanna's marriage record it states that the residence was Ballyhendricken, which could have been the home of Johanna. Ballyhendricken is only 4 km from Ballyfrunk. Also, the baptismal sponsor for one of John & Johanna's children was a James Minogue, who was possibly the brother of John.¹²

Registration #34 states that Mary Manogue, female, widow of a farmer, 84 years, died of Natural Causes (6 m.), on the 18th of February 1877 in Ballyfrunk, Ballycallan, uncertified. Informant was Thomas Manogue of Ballyfrunk, present at death. Registered on the 26th of February 1877 by Michael Tobin, registrar in the District of Tullaroan, County of Kilkenny.; Principal=Mary Loughlin⁸
