"St. John's, To Wit: Michael Nowlan of Saint John's by T. T. Little, his Attorney, complains of Patrick Saint Croix, for that the Defendant is indebted to the Plaintiff in the sum of one hundred and fifty eight dollars and sixteen cents for money payble by the Defendant to the Plaintiff for the price and value of goods sold by the Plaintiff to the Defendant at his request. And for that the Defendant on the thrity first day of October A.D. one thousand and eight hundred and sixty and the same date A.D. one thousand and eight hundred and sixty, and on the second of November A.D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three by his promissory notes, now overdue, promised to pay to the Plaintiff this amount of that and every note as it fell due, viz., fifty-six dollars and fifty four cents (equal to fourteen pounds two shillings and nine pence currency) within two years after date of first note; the sum of forty dollars (equal to ten pound currency) within one year after date of the second note; and ths sum of twenty one dollars and sixty four cents (equal to five pounds eight and two pence currencies) within three years after date of the thrid note; but he did not pay the sum, nor any of the them.
