Passed peacefully away at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, Mrs. Annie St. Croix of South Branch at the age of 105 years. Leaving to mourn are her sons, Joseph (Margaret) of South Branch, Frank (Margaret) of South Branch, Fintan (Mary) of South Branch and Gareth (Ita) of South Branch; daughters, Margaret Aucoin of South Branch, Elizabeth (John) Forward of Buchans, NL; special grandson, Peter (Cindy) St. Croix of South Branch; also 50 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Sadie St. Croix of South Branch, and Linda St. Croix of Stephenville Crossing, NL; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley St. Croix; sons, Peter and Nicholas; eight grandchildren; and son-in-law, Hugh Aucoin. Visitation took place on Tuesday and Wednesday at St. Sylvester’s Roman Catholic Church in South Branch. Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Sylvester’s Roman Catholic Church, officiated by Father Lee Lainey. Interment followed at St. Sylvester’s Cemetery. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.4

(Witness) Death11 September 1925 Marystown, Burin Peninsula, Newfoundland, Canada; Death Registration states that Julia Malay, died of Cancer of the liver in Marystown at the age of 49 and was attended by Dr. C. Harris and Rev. J. McGrath, Catholic, born in Jean de Baie and buried in Marystown.
Research Note: two descrepancies are her age. My records would indicate she was about 41 and that she was born in Salt Pond (not Jean de Baie which is a small settlement by Marystown). The 1935 Census indicates that Edward Malay was a widow though so it appears this is likely the correct Julia Malay. It also indicates that they had a daughter in 1924 and that would make her age of 49 most likely too old for childbearing.; Principal=Julia Hartson2

Death23 January 1941 At Sea; "Record of Death of Merchant Seaman: James W. Mallay of Marystown, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. Ship was the S.S. Langleegorse, #149425, Port of Registry at Newcastle on Tyne, British ship. Birthplace of James was Marystown, sailor, age 31, cause of death was supposed drowning when ship was attached by enemy aircraft and presumed sun, on January 23 1941 and registered on June 1941. From another site: The British steamship Langleegorse, on passage Durban to London, was bombed by German FW200 Kondor aircraft and sank about 200 miles W of Ireland.
