years alternated between Springfield, Missouri and Shamrock. She would stay
about 6 months with her oldest son, my Uncle Will and Aunt Gus in Springfield

by rail. She was a very petite lady and very prim. She always wore some
kind of jewelry such as a cameo pin or other kind of broach. Anytime she went anywhere she always wore a hat and gloves. She and I were very close."11

Military*1 January 1780 The following information was retrieved from Francis' pension application. Francis was drafted at the rank of private in the North Carolina Militia while living in Guilford County. He entered on the 1st of January 1780 under the command of Captain Brasler. However, he was soon taken from the ranks by order of Colonel John Paisley and ordered to take charge of a public wagon and team and convey public arms, powder and lead from the Halifax courthouse in Halifax, Va to Salisbury, NC and to Guilford County and other various other places until he was dismissed 3 months later by Major Rutherford and was returned home. He was again drafted in Guilford County between the 15th and 20th of January of 1781 and was placed in Captain Barnett's company. Soon again, however, he was removed to take a wagon to Newborn, NC to get salt for General Greene's army. While he was returning and was about 15 miles below Hillsborough he got information that the British were in Hillsborough. He was then conveyed from there by orders of Colonel Gallespie to an area of the Roanoke River at Taylor's Ferry in VA. and stayed there until after the battle of Guilford. He was then sent home after delivering supplies, this was another tour of duty of about 3 months. However, as he was returning home, he heard his brother, James, had been killed by the Tories and some of Tarleton's men. He immediatly revolunteered under Brasher and Paisley and was sent out to look for Tories in Chatham and Guilford Counties. Francis served for a total of 7 months and 24 days.3,4

In the name of God Amen, I William Galbreath, of the State of North Carolina and County of Orange, being in perfect health and sound mind and memory thanks be given to Almighty God, therefore calling unto mind the Mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do hereby make and ordain this to be my last will and testament. First of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hand of God who give it and my body to the earth to b buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the designation of my Executors hereafter mentioned and touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, bequeath and dispose of the same in manner and following, VIZ.
Item 1. I give and bequeath to my eldest son Walter Galbreath five hundred acres of land in the state of Tennessee in the middle district on Mill Creek of equal quantity of the rest of the tract on one thousand acres purchased by Jeremiah Chamberlain and myself No. 1908.
Item 2. I give and bequeath to my second son William Galbreath no other lands but that already conveyed to him viz fifty acres of land lying in Orange County, North Carolina, on back creek known by the name of Mill tract also five hundred acres of land in Tennessee State conveyed to him as it stands on record in the registers of Orange County, also my Negro man named July and my walking cane and Mill stones and the irons belonging to them.
Item 3. I give and bequeath to my third and youngest son John Galbreath the plantation where I now dwell with my mansion house with all appurtenances thereto belonging to the said place; addition also my Negro man named Tony, my bay, Hogs, cattle, Jack, Saddle and bridle and my shotgun and my small chest, and my featherbed and furniture also four hundred acres of land on the Duck River on the East Side of Sugar Creek of No. 2.
Item 4. I give and bequeath to my eldest Daughter Catron Galbreath now McKimey and to her lawful issue two hundred acres of land in the State of Tennessee on the South side of Duck River on the East side of Sugar Creek, also one hundred acres of land I give and bequeath to my son-in-law Francis McKimey also 50 acres of land to my grandson William McKimey both of which shall join the above mentioned two hundred acres left to my daughter Catron of No. 2 in original Grant.
Item 5. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Galbreath now Dickson and her issues two hundred acres in the State of Tennessee, also fifty acres of Land I give and bequeath to my grandson William Dickson adjoining the said two hundred acres of the south Side of Duck River on the East Side of Sugar Creek No. 2 in the original grant.
Item 6. I give and bequeath to my third daughter Elizabeth Galbreath now Cunningham and her lawful issue three hundred acres of land in the State of Tennessee also I give and bequeath to my grandson William Galbreath Cunningham one hundred forty acres of land including a mill seat on Buchanan's Creek not far from the mouth of said Creek joining the above three hundred acres of No. 226 in the original grant with one cow and half my sheep.
Item 7. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Galbreath two hundred acres of land in the State of Tennessee it being a part of the last mentioned tract of No. 226 including whole 140A, also my mare that I usually ride with her saddle and bridle and a bed and furniture called her own and my large Walnut Chest and Tea Table, half dozen of Chairs and my small Dutch oven, a set of cups and saucers and spoons and a set of knives and forks and half dozen of table spoons, one choice of all my cattle and half all my sheep and half dozen of delft plates and a spinning wheel, and my three large pewter dishes and the other pewter be equally divided amongst my four Daughters above named.
Item 8. I give all my other movable property not willed to be sold and debts due me to be collected to pay all my just debts and the surplus if any to be equally divided among my three sons VIZ Walter, William, and John Galbreath.
Item 9. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my well beloved son John and my well beloved son-in-law Matthew Cunningham my whole and Sole Executors of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby utterly nominate and revoke all other wills or Testaments heretofore made and I do Testify and confirm this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness hereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 4th day of January 1799.

N.B. Provided that either of my unmarried children VIZ Walter, John and Ann Galbreath should be removed by Death intestate or without a lawful heir of their own body then their part of the before willed Estate to be equally divided amongst the Brothers and sisters of their own sex VIZ Walters to be divided between William and John, and John's in like manner between Walter and William Galbreath, and Ann's to be divided in like manner between her other sisters.

This Indenture made the twenty first day of November 1808 between Francis McKimie of the County of Guilford and state of North Carolina of the one part and Robert Dixon of the County of Orange aforesaid of the other part. Whereas William Galbreath late of the county of Orange aforesaid was in his lifetime and at the time of his death was in possession of a tract of land lying situated and being in Middle District formerly part of the County of Rutherford in the state of Tennessee on the south side of Duck River between said River and a creek known and called by the name of Sugar Creek containing by estimate one thousand acres to be the same more or less. The same being a Tract of Land Granted by the State of North Carolina to the said William Galbreath by patent bearing date the 15th day of April and in the year 1788 and distinguished by among the surveyed do upon said River by the name of Survey Number eight and whereas the said William Galbraith being seized of the Tract of Land aforesaid duly made and published in subsisting his last will and Testament agreeable to the acts of the Governor and assembly describing how to pass real estate be devise and thereon among other things did devise the aforesaid Francis McKemie one hundred acres of the aforesaid Tract of land by virture of which devise the said Francis McKamie became before the death of the said William Galbreath seized in fee of one hundred acres of the Tract of foresaid to hold the same as Tenant in Common with other devises of the said William Galbreath had devised the remaining parts of said tract of land and whereas no division had yet been made among said tract of land and whereas no division had yet been made among the said Devises - those charged under them of the Tract of Land and Francis McKemie is still seized of one hundred acres therein as Tenant in Common.
Now this indenture witnessed that the said Francis McKemie for and in consideration of the sum of $300 to him in hand paid by the said Robert Dixon on or before Issuing or delivery of those payments the receipt is hereby acknowledged hath given said land Bargained, sold, released, and confirmed by these presents doth Give, Grant, Bargain, sell and release and confirm to the said Robert Dixon one hundred acres of land it being the same one hundred acres of land devised to him by the said William Galbreath as before recited out othe Tract of One Thousand Acres granted to said William Galbreath by the State of North Carolina as aforesaid lying situated and being as aforesaid together with all the rights, privileges, even any appearances.
To have and to hold the said one hundred acres of land saith all and singular the appointed acres thereunto belonging unto said Robert Dixon his heirs and assigns forever seized to the only properties and behooves the said Francis McKemie doth hereby covenant that he will guarantee and defend the said one hundred acres of land to said Robert Dixon, his heirs and assigns forever against himself, his heirs and all persons setting up claims to the same in witness thereof said Francis McKemie, his heirs... and office the day and year above written, signed sealed and delivered in the presence of:

Land15 January 1819 Bedford County, Tennessee, USA; "Know all men by these presents that We the undersigned of the county of Bedford, State of Tennessee Being a Part of the Heirs Devises and Lagaties of John Galbreath Deceased of the Sate of North Carolina and County of Orange of the one part and Walter Galbreath of the state and county aforesaid of the other part, and we the undersigned heirs as aforesaid do by These presents Relinquish all our right...or claim in and to a certain Tract of land lying and being in the county of Bedford and State of Tennessee...south side of Duck River ...containing One hundred and Eighty three acres, sixty eight poles be the same more or less, being part of a five hundred and sixty acre Tract more or less, which was purchased by John Galbreath dec'd in his lifetime from Jeremiah Chamberland being his part of a One thousand Acre tract entered in the Name of William Galbreath and Jeremiah Chamberland and we the heirs do hereby these presents Transfer said acres over unto the said Walter Galbreath all our aforesaid right, interest and claim to the assigns forever without any Responsibility upon us the said heirs and legatees and do by these presents renounce any claim that we may have had or may hereafter have to said land as heirs aforesaid. in Testimony whereof we and each of us Have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals This 15th day of January 1819.
