Company G, 6th Tennessee Mounted Infantry Regiment, Pikeville, Bledsoe County, Tennessee, USA; "William J. Carder", just turned age 19, enlisted in the Union Army (Civil War) at Pikeville, Tennessee for a one year term. Occupation farmer, mustered in at Nashville, Tennessee on March 10, 1865. He enlisted with Franklin N. Carder and they were both assigned to the same unit. Franklin and William were there only briefly, with Jasper reported Absent Without Leave on March 28, and Franklin reported sick at home in Bledsoe County. William was reported deserted March 27 near Chattanooga, Tennessee. They appear on no further records until the regiment was mustered out at Chattanooga on June 30, 1865.⁵
