It is thought that this is the James, that John of York (died Oct. 1769) mentions in his will as "friend". According to the author of the sited Red Tower article, friend referred to relative or kinsman, usually a first cousin rather than brother, but the author thinks James may have been John's nephew. According to an article in the Middle Tennessee Journal of Genealogy and History, Volume X, Number 3, Winter 1996~97 "the 6th District is located in the most northeastern part of Tennessee. This district is ...to be bounded by the fifth district on the west, by Virginia on the north,
and by the district south of French Broad and Holston, and the North
Carolina line on the east and southeast, which shall compose one other
district, and shall be known and distinguished by the name of the Sixth
