Thomas Tipton married Sarah's daughter Tempy Jane in 1836 but Tempy Jane was not present in this census. One researcher reports that she died in childbirth. The Tipton children in the household are inferred as Thomas' and Tempy Jane's. Kitty Merritt Tipton lived separately next door with two young children. Without knowing the reason for these living arrangements, it may be that Kitty married Thomas after Tempy Jane's death and that the two young children living with her are theirs.1
