Event*15 February 1859James Preston; Knoxville, Crawford County, Georgia, USA; The death of William E. Mathews before 1859 is confirmed in legal papers before the court, untitled as to which court. James Preston, through attorney Thomas Andrews, paid bond associated with a property dispute, where a claim in Superior Court against William E. Mathews, deceased, had been held in favor of the complaining merchants Scott Carhart and Company. The property was described as a house and lot in Knoxville where William E. Mathews resided when he died. These papers imply that the earlier Superior Court decision related to debt owed by William E. Mathews and awarded the property to the complaining merchant. James Preston, father-in-law of William E. Mathews, then gave an affadavit that the house belonged to him, not to William E. Mathews, and filed these papers making a claim on the property.2
